MouseOS — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
MouseOS (the Android app "MouseOS — Mac, PC & TV Remote" and its computer companion, MouseOS for Mac, Windows and Linux) is a remote control for your own computer and TV. It is built so that no personal data ever leaves your local network.
What the app does with data
- No account, no sign-in, no cloud. The app never contacts a server operated by us or by anyone else; the one exception is Google Play, for optional tips (see below). There is no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDK.
- Local network only. Pointer movements, key presses, media commands and TV commands are sent directly from your phone to your computer or TV over your Wi-Fi. They are not stored.
- Stored on your phone only: your settings (hand, scroll strip, speeds, vibration, theme, last screen, talk timer), the address and name of the last computer you linked, the TVs you saved and the pairing tokens they issued to this phone, whether you left a tip, and a random identifier the app generates so that your computer can remember this phone after you click ALLOW once. This identifier is shown to your computer only; it is not linked to you and never sent elsewhere. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
- Stored on your computer only: the list of phones you allowed.
Permissions
- Network / Wi-Fi state / multicast: to discover your computer and TV on the local network and talk to them.
- High sampling rate sensors: the gyroscope drives the air pointer. Sensor readings are turned into pointer movement on your phone; raw sensor data is never stored or transmitted.
- Vibrate: the talk timer buzzes at 5 min, 1 min and time-up.
- Google Play billing: to offer the optional tips.
The app requests no location, contacts, camera, microphone, storage or SMS permission.
Tips
MouseOS is free and shows no ads. In Settings you can leave an optional tip, sold by Google Play as an in-app product. To show the prices, the app asks the Google Play app on your phone; if you leave a tip, Google Play takes the payment under Google's privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). MouseOS never sees your name, your Google account or your payment details: it only learns that a tip went through, and remembers that on your phone to say thank you.
Children
MouseOS is a general-purpose utility, not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at the same address and the date above is updated.
